2011-06-12 ASB Hike: Sant Feliu de Codines to Sant Miquel del Fai; 12.5km
June's hike brought us to Medieval Abbey of Sant Miquel del Fai - the only Romanesque chapel in Catalonia to have been built inside a grotto. The Abbey is tucked into the valley’s edge where the Tenes River Waterfall tumbles over 100 meters to valley’s floor. The complex includes the 15th cen. gothic-style Priory House, the 10th cen. Chapel of Sant Miquel and the 10th cen. Sant Martí hermitage. A flight of stairs leads below to the Cave of Sant Miquel, where the mineral deposits have formed stalagmites and stalactites and further along another set of caves can be explored. Additionally, there is a small museum with fossils from the region and a picnic area.
